The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) General Assembly is currently looking for Malawian candidates to fill the positions of Finance and Administrative Assistant and Child Protection Specialist based at the General Assembly office in Area 18, Lilongwe as follows

Finance and Administrative Assistant

Duration: 2 years contract, renewable

Job Description

  • Providing finance and administration functions at the General Assembly.
  • Preparing budgets and financial statements (quarterly and year-end)
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliation statements.
  • Maintaining personal files and administrative files.
  • Ensuring that facilities are well-maintained and proper care is taken of resources.

Qualifications, skills, and qualities

  • Diploma in accounting with experience in finance and administration.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting packages i.e. QuickBooks is an added advantage.
  • Computer Skills – Microsoft Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be a member of CCAP with a good standing in his/her congregation.

Child Protection Specialist

Duration: one-year contract renewable based on organization needs, funding availability, and satisfactory performance.

Job Description

The Child Protection Specialist (CPS) will support the development and preparation of the Valuable To Jesus (VTJ) Child Protection program and will be responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, reporting, and evaluating the VTJ child protection program/projects within the five Synods under the CCAP umbrella. This position has been assessed as an elevated risk role for Child Safeguarding purposes as it is: a role with direct contact with children, works directly with children, and is a safeguarding response role. Additional vetting and assessment for elevated risk roles in child safeguarding (potentially including additional criminal background checks) apply. The Child Protection Specialist reports to the Secretary General of the CCAP for guidance and general supervision.

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Initiates and organizes coordination meetings among partners, especially in Nkhoma. Blantyre and Livingstonia Synods and surrounding areas, to share information and plan activities in the identification and prevention of child sexual abuse utilizing the Valuable to Jesus (VTJ) campaign tools.
  2. Advocates with authorities and schools to ensure the improved protection of vulnerable children in local communities and school settings. Children affected by conflict, displacement, or natural disasters will be prioritized.
  3. Provide support in the implementation of the VTJ Campaign and child protection activities, plan, train, and implement presentations in local communities, and monitor the impact and results of these activities.
  4. Undertakes community visits to areas of VTJ Campaign delivery, especially in Malawi, to monitor project activities and presentations. 
  5. Supports local communities in understanding and delivering child sexual abuse and violence protection activities, including capacity building in organizational areas.
  6. Review incoming mail and exchange of correspondence and ensure that all policy and technical documents, reports, and correspondence related to the program are properly maintained for easy reference.
  7. Ensures that VTJ child sexual abuse and prevention protection activities are well-integrated into the community presentations and involve local community leaders.
  8. Ensures the effective distribution of VTJ child protection-related supplies and support materials to local communities and intended beneficiaries. Supervise team members by providing them with clear objectives and goals, direction, and guidance to enable them to perform their duties responsibly, effectively, and efficiently.
  9. Participate in regular review meetings with the CCAP supervisor and VTJ team to highlight areas of convergence, achievements, and gaps in programming.

Qualifications and experience:

  • University degree in social sciences and other related fields (i.e. education, legal, human rights, and humanitarian law).
  • At least two years experience in managing and implementing projects in the area of child sexual abuse and violence protection, human rights
  • Strong community communication skills, willingness to spend time in the local communities
  • Fluency in English and Chichewa. Knowledge of Tumbuka and Shona is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of emerging issues, development, and trends in human rights, child trafficking, child rights, child protection, sexual abuse, violence, and exploitation of children
  • Communication, advocacy, analytical, training skills, networking and partnership-building skills
  • Good knowledge of computer management and applications i.e. Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to work in an international and multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to interact with civil society and government institutions
