Responding to Cyclone Freddy

Malawi has once again borne the brunt of another devastating cyclone. Tropical cyclone Freddy made a path of destruction through much of the southern region of Malawi. More than 600 are confirmed dead, with 500 more missing and presumed dead. Whole villages were washed away, roads and bridges destroyed, and livelihoods left in ruins.

The cyclone struck the southern region of Malawi and as such Blantyre Synod has been both badly affected and at the forefront of the response. Other Synods have also shown their support through special offerings, material donations and prayer.

On 29 March 2023, representatives from the General Assembly office and from the Lilongwe Area 30 Police congregation went to visit the affected areas. They brought material support in the form of clothes, shoes, food, cooking oil and soap to Migowi Presbytery for distribution to displaced households in Phalombe district.

CCAP is committed to the long-term recovery and rehabilitation also and welcomes the support of partners within Malawi and internationally in this effort. If you can offer support please contact us.
